The type of HDMI cable

Sep 07, 2026

There are various types of HDMI cables available for selection; each type can meet specific requirements. Here is an overview of HDMI cable types, their functions, and how to distinguish these cables. HDMI cable products certified by the HDMI Licensing Administrator usually have cable name identifiers provided by HDMI LA, such as "High Speed HDMI Cable" (High Speed HDMI Cable), "Premium High Speed HDMI Cable" (Premium High Speed HDMI Cable), etc. These identifiers prove that the cables comply with the corresponding HDMI specifications and performance requirements. Consumers can use these identifiers to determine the performance level of the cables.

Ultra-high-speed HDMI cable
This cable, which complies with strict specifications, can support various HDMI 2.1 functions, including lossless 8K 60Hz and 4K 120Hz. It supports a maximum bandwidth of 48Gbps and is backward compatible with existing HDMI devices. Its EMI is extremely low, reducing interference to nearby wireless devices.

High-quality high-speed HDMI (Ethernet) cable
This high-quality HDMI cable is a special certification for high-speed HDMI cables. These cables are designed and certified to achieve ultra-reliable 4K/UltraHD performance at up to 18Gbps bandwidth, including advanced features such as 4K 60, HDR, and BT.2020 extended color spaces. These cables have low EMI and can be identified by the certified label of the HDMI LA, allowing for certification and on-site verification. [11]
High-speed HDMI cable for Ethernet connection
This cable provides the same baseline performance as high-speed HDMI cables and adds a dedicated data channel (called the HDMI Ethernet channel) for device networking. The HDMI Ethernet channel function is only available when both connected devices support the HDMI Ethernet channel.

High-speed HDMI cable
This high-speed HDMI cable is designed and tested to handle video resolutions up to 1080p and supports up to 10.2Gbps bandwidth, including advanced display technologies such as 4K (frequency of 30Hz), 3D, and deep color. If you are using any of these technologies or if you want to connect a 1080p HD display to a 1080p HD content source (such as a Blu-ray disc player), it is recommended that you use this type of cable. High-speed automotive HDMI cable
Due to the fact that automotive systems may connect one or more internal relays, which can affect signal strength, high-speed automotive HDMI cables need to send stronger signals than other types of cables, so they need to be tested according to higher performance standards. These cables can also utilize a special dust-proof and shock-resistant HDMI E-type connector and lock.

Standard HDMI cable for Ethernet connection
This cable provides the same baseline performance as standard HDMI cables, plus an additional dedicated data channel for device networking, called the HDMI Ethernet channel. The HDMI Ethernet channel function is only available when both connected devices support the HDMI Ethernet channel.

Standard automotive HDMI cable
Due to the fact that automotive systems may connect one or more internal relays, which can affect signal strength, standard automotive HDMI cables need to send stronger signals than other types of cables, so they need to be tested according to higher performance standards. These cables can also utilize a special dust-proof and shock-resistant HDMI E-type connector and lock.
