The advantages of DP
Sep 14, 2026
1. Based on small data packets, the protocol
allows for the simple expansion of the DisplayPort standard
allows for multiple video streams to be transmitted simultaneously in separate entities when connected (in future versions)
2. Designed to support connections between internal chips
Allows direct manipulation of display function options, enabling the removal of the display control loop to produce cheaper and thinner displays.
The goal is to replace the LVDS connection inside the laptop panel with a unified link interface.
3. It is allowed to be backward compatible with single-channel DVI/HDMI; for dual-channel DVI/HDMI and analog VGA connectors, conversion connectors are required.
4. Support RGB and YCbCr color spaces (in the formats of ITU-R BT.601 and BT.709).
5. The auxiliary channel can be used for touch panel data, USB connection, camera, microphone and other devices.
6. Fewer channels and embedded clock frequency reduction minimize radio frequency interference (RFI).
7. Support USB Type-C.
