Advantages

  • Simplified wiring

Support for Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) functionality allows users to control multiple interconnected devices through a single remote control. Additionally, the Audio Return Channel (ARC) and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) features simplify the audio connection between the TV and audio system.
Limitations

  • Cable length limitation

Standard passive HDMI cables may experience signal attenuation over long distances, and it is generally recommended that the length does not exceed 15 meters. For longer distances, reliance on active cables or signal amplifiers and other devices is required, which increases costs.
Interface durability: Compared to some professional interfaces (such as DisplayPort), the physical connection of HDMI is not as firm and lacks a locking mechanism, making it prone to accidental loosening.

  • HDCP copyright protection

HDMI is equipped with high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) technology, aiming to prevent illegal copying. However, when the HDCP "handshake" between the connected devices (such as TV and players) fails, the screen may go black or display error messages, causing inconvenience to users.

  • Version fragmentation

With the development of technology, HDMI has introduced multiple versions (such as 1.4, 2.0, 2.1), and different versions support different functions and bandwidths. Users need to ensure that both the cable and the connected devices support the required functions (such as 4K@120Hz or dynamic HDR), otherwise they cannot experience the best effect, which increases the complexity of selection.
