Which interface, DVI or HDMI, is clearer?
Oct 20, 2026
The monitor has HDMI and DVI interfaces. The most recommended one is HDMI.

DVI interface:
The DVI interface is a high-definition interface, but it does not have audio. That is to say, the DVI video connection only transmits picture and graphic signals, but does not transmit audio signals.
The disadvantages of DVI interface:
Because it was originally designed for PC terminals, it has limited compatibility and only supports 8-bit RGB signal transmission for televisions that are less compatible and considering compatibility, many pins were reserved to support analog devices, resulting in a larger interface size. Currently, the better DVI interfaces can transmit 2K pictures, but this is basically the limit.
HDMI interface
HDMI can not only transmit high-definition graphic signal but also audio signal. Generally, it is connected to televisions at home and has strong anti-interference ability.
The current highest HDMI 2.1 standard supports 8K 60Hz and 4K 120Hz, with the resolution reaching up to 10K. It also supports high dynamic range HDR and the bandwidth has been increased to 48 Gbps.
Additional Information
The advantages of HDMI interface:
1. Development Trend: HDMI is the mainstream, while DVI has been phased out. It should be noted that this does not imply that the technology of DVI has not undergone revolutionary changes. Clearly, this goes beyond the scope of our current discussion.
2. Ease of Use: The port of DVI is larger than that of HDMI, making it inconvenient to plug and unplug. It requires screwing and the pins are prone to damage.
3. Different Transmission Distances of Cables: The transmission distance limit of DVI cables is relatively large.
4. HDMI can transmit high-definition digital video signals, with better video quality than DVI. Especially when the display resolution is above 2K. The limitations of DVI are very significant, being restricted to the 1080i@60Hz format.
5. HDMI has a faster transmission rate than DVI.
6. HDMI is compatible with DVI and can receive video signals through a conversion interface and connect them to the DVI interface.
7. The effect difference between HDMI and DVI devices. That is to say, if the display parameters are low, there will be no difference. Although DVI has its own advantages, in terms of supporting resolution, it is inevitably eliminated.
