Key Points of USB TYPE C Cable Design
Sep 03, 2026
1. Length Limitation
USB2.0: Recommended ≤ 4m.
USB3.2 Gen1: Recommended ≤ 2m.
USB3.2 Gen2: Recommended ≤ 1m.
Long cables need to reduce signal attenuation by increasing the diameter of the wire, using oxygen-free copper, and strengthening the shielding.
2. Coating and Contact Resistance
The thickness of the gold coating on ordinary contacts is 2-5 μm, while high-end products have up to 20-30 μm, which delays oxidation.
Increased contact resistance may be caused by contact oxidation, poor soldering, or metal fatigue. The friction during insertion and removal can temporarily remove the oxide layer.
3. Outer Material Requirements
Insulation, flame retardancy, weather resistance, tensile strength, and meeting the touch and appearance requirements of consumer goods (such as softness and dirt resistance) are all necessary.
