Are there any differences between the computer USB interface and the HUB?

The USB interface on the computer and the interface on the HUB splitter are the same. Both are USB interfaces, namely "Universal Serial Bus", also known as Universal Serial Interface.

USB Hub refers to a device that can expand one USB interface into multiple interfaces and enable these interfaces to be used simultaneously. USB HUBs are classified according to the USB protocol they belong to: USB 2.0 Hub, USB 3.0 Hub, and USB 3.1 Hub.

USB 2.0 Hub supports USB 2.0 and has a theoretical bandwidth of up to 480 Mbps.

USB 3.0 Hub supports USB 3.0 and is backward compatible with USB 2.0/1.1, with a theoretical bandwidth of up to 5 Gbps.

USB 3.1 Hub supports USB 3.1 and is backward compatible with USB 3.0/2.0/1.1, with a theoretical bandwidth of up to 10 Gbps.

Extended Information

1. The USB-HUB is a device that expands communication capabilities. Whether the Hub can power a 2.5-inch portable hard drive without an external power source depends on the power supply capacity of the computer's expansion port!

2. Generally, a 2.5-inch portable hard drive requires power from the computer or the Hub. A 3.5-inch portable hard drive needs a dedicated power supply with higher power; please do not directly connect such devices.

3. Without an external power source: The current provided by one computer USB port is about 500MA, which is only enough for a 2.5-inch portable hard drive. After being consumed by the USB-Hub, it is not sufficient for an ordinary 2.5-inch portable hard drive.

4. Many front USB ports of compatible computer cases have an additional conversion step and are affected by issues such as wire materials. Their power supply capacity is even worse; it is very likely to cause the portable hard drive to be unusable, lose data, or damage the hard drive.

5. If your portable hard drive makes a "clicking" sound, it is caused by insufficient power supply. For the sake of your portable hard drive, it is recommended to connect the USB-HUB to the integrated USB port on the motherboard of the computer case to ensure better contact and power supply.

6. When using a portable hard drive, please use the original USB power supply cable provided by the manufacturer. Ordinary USB cables have a thin wire diameter and high loss, which cannot meet the power supply requirements.
